When am I required to schedule visits and labs?

VISITS:

The medical services we provide at FOLX meet best practices and recognized standards of care. We want you to be reassured that you will always receive safe, effective, and quality clinical care from FOLX. Like with in-person medical care, video visits with your FOLX clinician allow us to understand your medical concerns and address your needs.

  • FIRST VISIT: When you first start receiving clinical care from FOLX, you will fill out an intake form that asks for information about your complete medical history, your current medical concerns, and your goals. You will then have an initial appointment with your clinician to review your medical history and discuss a treatment plan. If you are located in Florida please review the following FAQ for additional, state-based requirements: Current HRT requirements for Florida members.
  • FREQUENCY OF VISITS: How often you will need a visit with your clinician after this initial visit depends on you, your clinician, and your care plan. For instance, if you have more complicated medical concerns, want to adjust your medications or dosages, or need to discuss side effects or complications–you will likely require more frequent follow-up visits. For simpler or more stable treatment plans, you may only need a video visit with your clinician annually after your first visit

Other reasons that you might need to schedule additional visits include:

  • Inactive or Unpaid Membership: When your membership has been inactive or unpaid for 6+ months. We consider this restarting with FOLX and require you to have a visit with your clinician to restart medication.
  • Legal Requirement: When we prescribe a controlled substance (like testosterone) in certain states or when you move states or change clinicians.
  • Healthcare Need: Your clinician may request an additional visit based on your unique healthcare needs.

LABS:

Getting labs or tests like an ultrasound or other screening might be needed if medically indicated in your care plan. For gender-affirmative hormone therapy (GAHT), labs are required more frequently when you first start hormones - usually two times a year. After you have been on GAHT for over a year, labs are often only required annually. Management of other medical conditions, such as PrEP and diabetes, might require more frequent blood work. Your clinician may order additional lab testing based on your unique healthcare needs.
