Do I need to stop other medications or supplements before completing my GAHT/HRT labs?

  • Updated

Some medications or supplements can interfere with your results if you take them before your labs and we recommend stopping them for a week before your lab work.* This does not interfere with the levels in your body but actually interferes with the way the machine interprets your levels.

  • Biotin (can also be found as an ingredient in energy drinks!)
  • Multivitamins with Biotin
  • Herbs or supplements such as: soy, licorice, red clover, thyme, turmeric, hops, verbena

If you have a new medication in one of these categories, please reach out to your clinician before stopping and getting labs so we can assist*:

  • Oral/inhaled steroids
  • Certain cancer medication

NOTE: If labs are out of expected range due to interference, we may ask you to repeat your labs.

*This guidance is specific to labs for people on hormones for Gender Affirming Care or Hormone Replacement Therapy. If you have questions about Primary Care or other labs and how to complete them, please send us a message so we can help.
