What personal and medical information does FOLX share with my Insurance Company?

  • Updated

We take your safety and privacy very seriously. Should you utilize insurance coverage for your clinical care or medications through FOLX, we want to help you understand how that information may be utilized.

If you are on an in-network insurance plan, we will submit claims to your insurance company for visits with your clinician. These claims will include personal information, including your name, your date of birth, and your billing code. Nearly 100% of claims are processed automatically, without a human seeing any of your information.

That said, your insurance company will likely send mail to the address listed on your insurance plan regarding your care with FOLX or any medications you use insurance for. An explanation of benefits (EOB) or bill from your insurance company will include details about the type of care you received and where. Insurance companies are required by law to send EOBs - you can not opt out of receiving them. This is important to keep in mind if you are on someone else’s health insurance plan - such as a parent or guardian - or live with people who might open your mail.

Please note: Other than medication (if you choose home delivery) and insurance bills or explanations of benefits (EOB), FOLX will not send mail to your home. We communicate with you through email and HIPAA compliant messaging portals. Medication from our partner pharmacy is sent in discreet packaging.

In accordance with privacy laws, FOLX clinicians cannot speak to other healthcare professionals about your care unless you give them permission to — except in rare cases of a medical emergency. That said, your medication history may be visible to other clinicians you seek care from. This is part of integrated electronic medical records across clinical practices and pharmacies to help prevent medication interactions.

For more information, please review our privacy policy, which lists other instances where information may be disclosed.
