Hi Florida,
We are devastated to report that Governor DeSantis signed Florida’s Senate Bill 254.
We remain committed to getting you care and will have much more information to share in the coming days. We have been working continuously to prepare for this.
Refills have been sent to anyone who is due in the next 3 weeks. If this is you, you should have received an email from us notifying you.
For other folks - please read this email and know we have more coming for you soon. Our clinicians and care team are working as swiftly as possible right now, and we all appreciate your patience during this heartbreaking moment.
This email contains information about Florida’s Senate Bill 254, what that means for you, and what FOLX is doing to ensure continuity of care. We are so sorry there are any threats to your ability to access gender-affirming care, and we will continue to do everything in our power to work for your continued access.
Under SB 254, gender-affirming care for adults has additional requirements, including an in-person visit with a physician (MD or DO). Because of the high likelihood that this law will be challenged in court, we do not yet know if the new requirements for prescribing gender-affirming hormones will impact care immediately or be paused for legal action.
If/when required, these requirements say that adults must go in person to sign an informed consent form and that this in-person visit must be with an MD or DO. We are prepared to begin delivering in person care and have taken the following steps.
- FOLX sent refills for our members early. We sent refills for everyone within the early refill window (3 weeks) over the past several weeks.
- FOLX is hiring more MDs and DOs who are licensed and living in Florida. This will allow us to provide care in more locations across the state.
- FOLX is working to have in-person locations in major hubs across the state so that we can meet the new requirements and allow for continuity of care.
You will hear from us again as soon as we have information about how to set up in person care or take other necessary steps, as the legal implications become clearer.
We are here for you and are so sorry your healthcare rights are at stake.
